Logistics of the biking portion: The bike course is entirely on pavement.  Do be aware that hazards like dirt/gravel, pot holes etc. may be present on the course. Follow the course marshals as they direct you where you need to go. Please review the separate Bike Course map.

Directions:

  • Exit the transition area to the right, mount your bike AFTER the “Mount Line”, and follow the signs/arrows that will put you on Rim Drive
  • Turn RIGHT onto Rim Drive
  • BEGIN 3 LAPS:
    • Continue to Golf Course/Physical Plant intersection, veer RIGHT for maybe 150 yards then make a U-Turn on Fort Lewis Drive; turn left back onto RIM Drive
    • Continue on Rim Drive past Hillcrest Golf Clubhouse
    • Turn RIGHT at intersection of Goeglein Gulch Road
    • Continue around Goeglein Gulch (perimeter of golf course)
    • Turn RIGHT at the roundabout onto Fort Lewis Drive
    • Turn LEFT at top of hill (8th Avenue) towards the Community Concert Hall
    • At traffic light, turn RIGHT onto Rim Drive and continue up the hill to begin your next lap
  • AFTER LAST LAP:
    • After turning onto Rim Drive after the traffic light, make a RIGHT into the EBH parking lot. Take path toward clock tower then take path to the left to ride past transition, then make a U-Turn to head back to the transition area.
    • Dismount BEFORE you enter the transition before the “dismount line”. Get ready to start the run course!

Bike Course Rules:

  • No riding the bike in the transition area. There will be a designated bike mount and bike dismount line
  • You MUST wear a bike helmet, tightly fastened
  • No music/ear buds allowed on the bike or run
  • No drafting – ride single file with at least 1-2 car lengths between riders
  • Tri bikes (time trial) are allowed, but use extreme caution if riding in an aero position
  • Only pass another rider on the left, and alert the rider that you are passing (i.e. “on your left”). Check for traffic before passing, pass quickly and return to single file on the right side of the lane.
  • While we will be attempting to control traffic, please be alert and use caution. This is NOT a closed course.
