Title: Invisible Walls: Stories from the Largest Wave of Migration in US History
Join us January 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Main Stage of the FLC Theatre to hear Sociology Professor Dr. Benjamin Waddell talk about his research on immigration. Since 2020, the United States has witnessed an unprecedented surge in asylum applications, reaching levels never before seen in its history. Dr. Waddell will delve into narratives of those who have sought refuge, examining their origins, motivations, and the likelihood of their asylum claims being approved. His discussion will be enriched by compelling stories from both Mexico and the southwestern region of Colorado, providing a vivid backdrop to these human experiences. This is a can't-miss opportunity to learn more about one of the most important issues of our time.
The FLC Undergraduate Research Speaker Series allows students at all levels, staff, faculty, and the broader Durango community to hear research-related personal stories. The talks last ~40 minutes and are followed by Q&A, snacks, and conversation. Watch previous Speaker Series talks on our YouTube channel.
