Summer Research and post-baccalaureate program at the McDonnell Genome Institute at Washington University in St. Louis

We are seeking bright students for our NIH funded summer research and post-baccalaureate programs. The Opportunities in Genomics Research (OGR) program at The McDonnell Genome Institute at Washington University in St. Louis (genome.wustl.edu) is committed to increasing the number of underrepresented students who pursue PhD’s in genomics and related fields. We have two OGR mentored research programs: Undergraduate Scholars, a 10 - week summer program and Extensive Study, a one-year post-baccalaureate program that includes research and enrichment activities such as GRE and graduate school preparation.

Our programs are small and familial and provide individualized attention in a rigorous research environment. Our program alumni have been accepted to PhD programs at schools such as: Harvard, UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, Yale and of course Washington University in St. Louis. We’ve been around since 2007 and we’re excited to continue to foster and cultivate the interests and talent of students from diverse backgrounds.

We offer a competitive stipend/salary and housing for summer students. Program details and the application can be found at: genome.wustl.edu/outreach. Areas of research that our students have pursued as a part of OGR include: genomics, bioinformatics, cancer biology, microbiology, developmental biology, cell biology and physiology.  So our definition is quite broad and we encourage applications from students with varied interests.
