Students must meet the following eligibility criteria by the program start date of June 1st:

  • Enrolled at Fort Lewis College
  • United States citizen or permanent resident or a native of the U.S. Pacific Islands or U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Underrepresented in the Biomedical and Behavioral Research per the NIH Definition of Underrepresented Researchers in Biomedical and Behavioral Research
  • Majoring in a scientific discipline, such as Biology (General), Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Exercise Science-Physiology, Mathematics, Physics, or Psychology
  • Completion of Sophomore level or transfer student with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher with at least 60 credit hours earned by the program start date of June 1st
  • Must be able to graduate in two years
  • One semester or one summer of faculty-directed research experience is desired
  • Participation in one or more U-RISE Workshops is desired
  • Plans to pursue a Ph.D. in a biomedical research related field
