U-RISE scholars:  UNC Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP) will pay for BBSP graduate application fee.

UNC is a national leader in research and training, ranking 8th among private and public universities for NIH research funding (FY16).  Our summer research, postbacc, and graduate programs in the biomedical and biological sciences embrace diversity of both people and thought, and our trainees from underrepresented (UR) groups are successful leaders and researchers throughout the scientific enterprise.

• BBSP - The umbrella admissions portal for entry into 14 PhD programs with over 350 affiliated faculty.  BBSP admits ~80 students per year, and for the 2017 cohort, 25% are from underrepresented (UR) groups. BBSP - UNC Biological and Biomedical Sciences PhD program - An umbrella graduate admissions and training program for 15 PhD programs in biological, biomedical, quantitative, and molecular sciences at UNC Chapel Hill.
• IMSD - The NIH-funded Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) increases the PhD attainment and career success of UR scientists by providing academic enrichment, mentorship, professional development, and a supportive community.
• ImPACT - Funded by 1 of only 17 institutional BEST grants awarded by the NIH, our Immersion Program to Advance Career Training (ImPACT) provides innovative career exploration, training, and experiential learning opportunities.  This program broadens career preparative training for graduate students pursuing research and research support careers in academia/higher education, biotech/pharma, business development, entrepreneurship, policy, nonprofit, and government.
