Seek Your Adventure Award

The Seek Your Adventure Award supports Fort Lewis College students’ pursuit of outdoor adventure in the four corners region. With a lifetime of adventure just off-campus, teams are encouraged to propose trips exploring those landscapes in unique ways. Teams can receive up to $1,500 for their proposed trip.

The deadline for 2023 proposals is Friday, March 31.

Award information and proposal help

  • Proposal writing clinic: Tuesday, February 21, 6 p.m. in Outdoor Pursuits.

Trip requirements and considerations
  • Trips must be based in the 4-corners region (CO, UT, NM, or AZ).
  • Teams must be made up of at least 1 currently enrolled FLC student.
  • Applicants must have demonstrable relevant experience in the backcountry and in the proposed activities.
  • Trips must be self-run. Guided trips and technical skill courses will not be funded.
  • Trips must be scheduled to occur within 365 days after submission.
  • There is no minimum or maximum timeframe for number of days in the field.
  • Funding can be used for transportation, food, equipment, permit fees, and other trip-related expenses.
Evaluation critera

Proposals are reviewed by a group of Outdoor Pursuits professional staff, grant donors, and FLC alumni. Proposals are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Celebration and exploration of recreation areas in the 4-corners region
  • Appropriate challenge and risk level for applicant’s experience
  • Trips including a sustainability, environmental service, citizen science, or community engagement focus will receive extra favor in the evaluating process
  • Completeness of application
Expectations of funded trips

Teams are required to:

  • Submit all receipts for reimbursement within 30 days of trip completion.
  • Attend the following year’s Seek Your Adventure information session to help educate and engage future applicants.
  • Generate storytelling media (photo, video, art, etc.) content from their trip to be shared with Outdoor Pursuits.
  • Share their trip with the OP community at an event (TBD) in the year after their trip.
