About Dr. Matt Welz

Dr. Welz is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at Fort Lewis College. He joined the College in 2017. After receiving his bachelor's degree, Welz worked several years as an Actuary in Washington, D.C. and in 2014 he was awarded a Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) Fellowship. Dr. Welz loves teaching, advising student research and independent studies, and finding new ways to connect with his students.  When not teaching, Dr. Welz’s research is principally focused on applications of Fusion Systems and the study of Finite Simple Groups.
