About Dr. Andrew Young

Andrew Young is an assistant professor of Physics and Engineering at Fort Lewis College.  He joined the college in 2017.  Previously he was a graduate research assistant in the University of Maine’s Civil and Environmental Engineering program and at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center.  Dr. Young’s work has included the structural modeling and analysis of composite material wind turbine towers for use on floating offshore platforms, and the development of computationally efficient structural modeling methodologies for the Hypersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (HIAD) under development by NASA.  Dr. Young was awarded the NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship as part of his collaboration with NASA researchers, and participated in annual trips to the NASA Langley Research Center as a visiting technologist.
