Residence Director

Position Summary

The Residence Director is a full-time, live-in, professional staff member and reports to the Associate Director for Student Housing and Conference Services. The position includes community building and administrative management responsibility of a residential building/area with 150-400 residents, student staff supervision, training and development, programming, student leader advisement and enforcing College and Housing policies. The Residence Director should also demonstrate volunteerism within the college community and a commitment to multiculturalism.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Previous experience working with college students

  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous collegiate campus housing experience

  • Strong administrative, communication, and leadership skills

  • Previous experience serving on duty/call for emergency response

  • Supervisory and management experience


Major Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the development of a community and educational environment which encourages inclusive and positive relationships among residents

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of a residence hall including staff supervision, organizational planning, programming, counseling, discipline, facilities and administrative tasks

  • Supervises, trains, evaluates and selects Resident Assistants and other student staff specific to the assigned building or complex

  • Counsels, advises and assists residents concerning personal, interpersonal, and facilities concerns.

  • Provides academic support, counseling, and resources to students

  • Coordination of information sharing among College Administration, Housing Office staff, student staff and residents

  • Administrative tasks including budget management, occupancy oversight, use of multiple software platforms (Banner, StarRez, Maxient, TMA, Blackboard, and others) and various clerical tasks

  • Enforces and promulgates Fort Lewis College and Student Housing policies, protocols and regulations

  • Provide emergency response management and support by serving in campus RD duty rotation.

  • Serve as a student conduct hearing officer, including: facilitate meetings, decide responsibility, issue and follow up on sanctions, and maintain records

  • Serve on department, institution wide committees and complete assigned projects.

  • Fosters student leadership, involvement and advises hall government.

  • Develops and maintains good communication with staff and residents and promotes good public relations. This includes but is not limited to central office staff, dining services, custodial, and maintenance staff

  • Serve as a Summer Conference Manager during the summer. Be the main point of contact for several large conference groups, confirm information and accommodations, and ensure FLC facilities are adequately prepared for arrival

  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities

  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), as defined by the Clery Act of 1998

  • As a Responsible Employee of Fort Lewis College, report all relevant details about alleged sexual misconduct involving FLC students, faculty, or, staff, about which they or know or have reason to know

  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.

  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation package includes a $35,600 salary, furnished apartment, meal plan when dining services are available, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

 12 month appointment. Exempt position. 40 hours per week. Evening and weekends as required.
