Financing your study abroad experience

Students selecting USAC cannot use their tuition waiver, merit scholarships, or other tuition-based financial aid. All loans and pell grants do apply.

Students selecting ISEP exchange or Partner exchange can use all their financial aid including tuition waiver, grants, scholarships, and loans.

Scholarships

Fort Lewis College/USAC Study Abroad Scholarship

Fort Lewis College and USAC have launched a scholarship program to support study abroad goals of FLC students.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Any FLC student applying to USAC programs with at least one semester remaining to fulfill at Fort Lewis College upon completion of semester abroad
  • Applicants must be willing to intern as USAC Student Ambassadors supporting the International Programs Office with information sessions, International Education Week, and other promotional activities upon their return from study abroad

To Apply

  • Submit one page letter of interest including: verification you will complete a minimum of one term at FLC upon your study abroad completion; how you would be a successful ambassador to Fort Lewis College, your community, family, and country while abroad; and how you would promote study abroad to your peers upon your return as well as a summary budget indicating the amount you are requesting to studyabroad@fortlewis.edu
  • Scholarship deadlines: October 15 for spring and February 15 for summer/fall

Recipients will be notified via email by December 1 for spring/April 1 for summer and fall

Eligibility: U.S. citizen; currently receiving a Pell Grant; full-time student
Amount: Up to $4,000
Deadlines: Early October for spring programs/Early April for fall programs


NSEP Boren Awards

Eligibility: U.S. citizen; study abroad in outside of Western Europe, Canada, AU/NZ.
Amount: Up to $10,000 per semester
Deadlines: Early February each year


Bridging Scholarships for study in Japan

Eligibility: U.S. citizen
Amount: $2,500 per semester
Deadlines: Early April each year


Foundation for Global Scholars

Eligibility: U.S. citizen
Amount: $500 - $1500

German Academic Student Service (DAAD) – scholarships for study in Germany

Eligibility: U.S. citizen; sophomore or junior; have well studied plan for their stay in Germany
Amount: A monthly stipend of € 650
Deadlines: Late January each year


Job Application Guide

Eligibility: U.S. citizen
Amount: $500
Deadlines: July 15


Phi Kappa Phi – Study Abroad Grants

Eligibility: Have minimum of 30 semester hours and no more than 90 semester hours; GPA of 3.5 or higher; Have at least 2 semesters left after study abroad
Amount: $1,000
Deadlines: Mid-February each year
