Academic Standing Appeal

Students with an academic standing of Academic Separation have two options for returning to Fort Lewis College:

Option 1: Submit an Academic Standing Appeal

Students may appeal their separation to the Academic Standards Committee if:

  • They experienced compelling and unforeseen circumstances that impacted academic performance, and
  • They have a high probability of raising their cumulative GPA to 2.00 or higher within one additional semester. This is determined by a Quality Point Deficiency (QPD) of 10 points or fewer, calculated using the GPA Repair Calculator.

Note: It is not recommended to submit an appeal if your QPD is 40 points or higher. If the appeal is successful, students will be eligible to return to the College for the upcoming term.

Option 2: Petition for Academic Renewal

Students who do not appeal or whose appeals are denied may choose to sit out for at least six consecutive terms (including summer). After this period, they may petition for Academic Renewal when reapplying for admission to Fort Lewis College.
