A returning Fort Lewis College student who has not attended Fort Lewis College for at least six consecutive terms (e.g., Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring Summer, Fall) and whose Fort Lewis College cumulative GPA is below 2.00 may apply for Academic Renewal. If Academic Renewal is approved, grade point averages for work completed prior to readmission will not be carried forward. Previously completed courses with an earned grade of C- or higher are eligible to count towards graduation if they are allowable under the Time Limits on Coursework policy.

Students must apply for admission by the published application deadline for the re-entry term. Student must submit an Academic Renewal petition by Census Date of the re-entry term.

Important Information About Academic Renewal

  • Students may receive academic renewal only once.
  • All coursework completed prior to the renewal will remain visible on the student’s academic record. If renewal is granted, the student’s permanent academic record will denote “ACADEMIC RENEWAL APPROVED” with the date.
  • Academic Renewal applies only to actions taken by Fort Lewis College. Other colleges may or may not accept the action of Academic Renewal.
  • Academic Renewal does not apply to financial aid eligibility. Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy requires evaluation of grades on all attempted courses.
  • Students granted academic renewal must meet all established College policies for satisfactory academic standing.
  • Students who receive academic renewal will be required to complete at least 30 hours of credit after readmission before they are eligible for a baccalaureate degree, even if all other degree requirements have met.
