Fort Lewis College art and design students come from a diversity of backgrounds and represent a wide range of artistic interests. There are many ways to participate in the department's vibrant art community, including joining student-run organizations like the Art Club and AIGA, contributing to the arts and literary journal Images, attending visiting artist talks, participating in frequent students shows, and attending monthly art openings in the department's two galleries.
Alumni of the department have become practicing artists, teachers, architects, graphic designers, fashion designers, advertisers, and gallery and museum administrators. Many continue their education after Fort Lewis College, completing graduate degrees in art and design or related fields, attending artist-in-residence programs and completing internships.
