We are a group of dedicated students, faculty, and community partners at Fort Lewis College who volunteer our time to design and construct water, sanitation, and hygiene systems in developing communities. Village Aid Project is a non-profit, student based organization. We are affiliated with Fort Lewis College as a Registered Student Organization.
The elevated US State Department travel advisory in Nicaragua means that VAP cannot take students to work on projects in-country. However, we are honoring our commitment to communities in the Municipality of Jalapa by utilizing our community partners to run one project each year until the travel advisory changes.
VAP is excited to open new projects in Ecuador. We worked in the area around Mount Chimborazo from 2007 to 2013 completing numerous water and sanitation projects. Working in the same region, we will be starting both school construction and sanitation projects in 2020.
VAP continues to work on water projects in Myanmar in cooperation with the Shanta Foundation of Durango. Three systems were completed in the summer of 2019 and an assessment team will travel to Myanmar in May 2020 to develop future projects.
