Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

How do we accommodate students with disabilities?

The Fort Lewis College Testing Center provides a low-distraction environment for students to take exams using reasonable accommodation. If you think you may qualify for these services, contact Kristin Polens, director of the Accessibility Resource Center: kpolens@fortlewis.edu or 970-247-7459.

How do I make an appointment at the Testing Center?

Schedule an exam:

Students with approved testing accommodations may take their tests in Noble Hall, Room 287, during the hours of operation. We recommend that you communicate with the professor when deciding to utilize the Testing Center to help manage the appointment coordination. For final exam appointments, we also highly recommend you schedule 14 days in advance due to limited space availability.

How will my test travel between the professor and the Testing Center?

Each professor decides how the Testing Center will receive the test. The test can be:

  • Uploaded into AIM by professor.
  • Emailed to testingcenter@fortlewis.edu.
  • Delivered by the faculty member to Noble 280 or slipped under the door of room 287.
  • Brought by student to the testing center in a sealed and signed envelope provided by the professor.

The professor also decides how the Testing Center will return the test. The test can be:

  • Returned to the professor's office or mailbox by a Testing Center student worker.
  • Brought back by the student in a sealed and signed envelope provided by testing center staff.
  • Picked up by the professor from the testing center mailbox in Noble 280.

What if I need to change or cancel my appointment?

Please contact your professor to discuss options for rescheduling. Rescheduling is subject to your professor’s approval and/or approval from the Director of the Accessibility Resource Center.

Next, Log into your AIM account, click on Alternative Testing, and make the changes in your appointed time. The Testing Center Coordinator will then approve the change or not. Other options for rescheduling are to call (970) 382-6938 or email testingcenter@fortlewis.edu.

Testing Center Policies

  • Students may only use approved accommodations, unless special arrangements have been made with a professor.
  • Students must surrender the test to the proctor at the end of the testing period.
  • The testing center is guided by the principles of academic integrity. Any student found cheating by the proctor will not be allowed to complete the test and will be reported to the professor and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
