Title: How many species does your country have?

How unique are the animals in your country? Do you share some species with your neighbors or is your country teeming with endemic organisms? More importantly, why does having a unique wildlife community matter? Join Dr. Michael Drake from the Department of Environment & Sustainability as he explores how the vertebrates of the world are distributed between nations, discusses the ties between cultural identity and wildlife, and shares new research showing that every country has a unique wildlife community. This will be a fun conversation about how scientific research can inform our ideas on conservation and will make you reflect on how we value the wildlife of the world.

The FLC Undergraduate Research Speaker Series allows students at all levels, staff, faculty, and the broader Durango community to hear research-related personal stories. The talks last ~40 minutes and are followed by Q&A, snacks, and conversation.  Watch previous Speaker Series talks on our YouTube channel.
