The two-day New Employee Orientation program will be held on Monday, August 10 from 8:30 am to 3 pm and Tuesday, August 11 from 8:30 am to noon in Skyhawk Station 118, room 130. We encourage new faculty and staff to attend both days to meet various campus representatives and network with other new employees. Lunch is provided on Day 1 and a light breakfast is provided on Day 2 of the orientation program. Registration is open! Please RSVP for the days you are able to attend.

The format changed to a two-day event to decrease the information covered in one sitting for greater content retention and opportunities for discussion, reflection, and additional speakers suggested by previous orientation attendees.

The orientation program was developed by the HR team as a part of our onboarding process. We recognize that there is much to learn on a new job, not only about work responsibilities, but also about campus culture and organizational procedures. We are committed to help new employees succeed in their new roles and to support them as much as possible.

The purpose of this orientation is to build community among new faculty and staff, to learn more about Fort Lewis College, and to meet with various departments about essential information for new employees.

Orientation presentations include:

  • FLC History & Core Essentials
  • Diversity Affairs & Reconciliation Essentials
  • Admission & Recruitment Overview
  • Marketing & Communications Overview
  • Title IX & Campus Security Essentials
  • IT & Help Desk Essentials
  • Budget & Purchasing Essentials
  • Student Housing & Campus Life
  • FLC Foundations & Advancement
  • Employee Engagement Opportunities
  • And more!

If you are unable to attend this month, you are welcome to participate in a future orientation date. Orientation is typically held in January, May, August, and October. We recognize that there may be employees hired in the past year or two who would benefit from this orientation, so as space allows, we invite anyone who would like to participate to register.

We greatly appreciate and encourage chairs and supervisors to make this an essential onboarding component for new employees. According to Human Resources Management Institute, formal onboarding increases the chance of keeping a new employee for at least 3 years by 69%. Feedback we received from previous participants conveyed that New Employee Orientation was "very much time well spent" and what they learned was "definitely helpful and immediately applicable."

New full-time faculty will receive an invitation from Academic Affairs to attend Faculty Orientation. We encourage faculty to attend both orientation programs for an optimal onboarding experience.
