Criminology & Justice Studies major
Study how society heals...and then get into the action
It is one of the largest, most diverse, and fastest-growing job markets: the criminal justice system. FLC's Criminology & Justice Studies major features a path for students passionate about community building and restorative justice. You’ll have access to real-world work experiences in local, state, federal, and tribal justice systems around the Four Corners.
"Studying Criminology & Justice Studies at FLC allows students the opportunity to explore the social factors that lead to crime, allowing our graduates to contribute to actual reductions in criminal behavior."
The block internship program integrates 15 credits of academic sociology with an intensive community placement in a regional human service agency or grassroots organization. You’ll work closely with an assigned faculty mentor to help provide context and academic perspective.
You’re matched with an organization in the Four Corners region whose harm and healing mission aligns with your interests. The Sociology department has long-term partnerships with the Durango Police Department, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado State Patrol, La Plata Youth Services, and many others.
Let your passion for justice fuel a rewarding, life-affirming career. Let our experiential approach, small classes, and dedicated faculty help you shape the foundation.
