About Dr. Yiyan Li 

Dr. Yiyan Li is an assistant professor in the Physics & Engineering Department at Fort Lewis College. He received his B.S. degree from Henan University of Sciences & Technology and his M.S. degree from Chongqing University. He received his Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2016.

At UNLV, his research project ‘single droplet EWOD microbial fuel cells' was funded for $30k by an FOA program. In 2015, Dr. Li drafted an NSF grant based on the preliminary results of his PhD work at UNLV. This grant was awarded to his collaborators at Cornell University and the University of Cincinnati for $466k by the NSF renewable energy program for the development/analysis of electrogenic bacteria for microbial fuel cells. In 2016, he joined UC - Irvine as a postdoc fellow to lead a group of 18 for an NIH R01 project ($5M) to combat antibiotic resistant bacteria using single digit sensitivity optical detectors. During this period, he participated in an NIH R33 grant application for a translational study of genotypic cancer detection using microfluidic technologies. He also served as the project scientist of Velox Biosystems, LLC for digital droplet PCR development and the research advisor for Amberstone, LLC for the development of a high throughput droplet sorter.
