He joined the college in 1992 and has served as chair of the department. Prior to joining Fort Lewis, Dr. Milofsky was a postdoctoral fellow at Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University. Dr. Milofsky has produced numerous patents and publications on his research, which has been funded by the National Science Foundation, Research Corporation, S&S Chemical, the American Chemical Society and the Dreyfus Foundation. Currently, he and several Fort Lewis students are creating paper-based sensors as a low-cost, disposable method of diagnosing diseases. Outside of Fort Lewis, Dr. Milofsky is a member of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe/Colorado Environmental Commission, appointed by former Colorado Governor Bill Ritter. He has served in this role since 2010. He is also a consultant for S&S Chemical, a specialty wax supplier based in South Carolina, and has consulted for various other biomedical and science organizations throughout his career Dr. Milofsky was the 2001-2002 Fort Lewis College Featured Scholar. He is a reviewer for several publishers, journals and organizations, including Analytical Chemistry and Petroleum Research Fund, and a member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.
