About Dr. Michael E. Valdez

Dr. Michael E. Valdez joined the School of Business faculty prior to the Fall 2013 semester.  His research interest areas are international management, entrepreneurship, and cross-cultural issues.  His research has appeared in such outlets as the Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Asia Business Studies, and Transportation Journal. Dr. Valdez has presented his research in various conferences in the United States and abroad and is a member of the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business.  Prior to becoming a Skyhawk, Dr. Valdez was a professor at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

In addition to his work as a professor, Dr. Valdez has a consulting business (MV2 Consulting) that assists organizations (e.g., government utilities, non-profits, and informational technology firms) facing strategic challenges.  

Being a professor is Dr. Valdez’s second career.  Prior to earning a doctoral degree in international management and MBA from the University of Hawaii, he worked in the information technology industry in Cambridge, MA and London England.  Dr. Valdez also worked for a Swedish non-profit company specializing in student exchange programs after obtaining his undergraduate degree in International Studies from Pepperdine University.

Dr. Valdez has been coming to Durango for over a decade on vacation, to visit his younger brother (FLC class of 2002) and parents in Cortez, CO.
