Heidi (Van Huysen) Baskfield, Board of Trustees, Fort Lewis College

Chair, Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College

Heidi is a native Coloradoan who grew up in Parker and received her B.A. in political science from Fort Lewis College and her law degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego.

Her first political venture was Rock the Vote in 1996, which used pop culture to boost political participation. Heidi later served as executive director for the Colorado Student Association, lobbying on behalf of student issues in higher education. She then worked for an independent record label, raising over one million dollars for music education before moving to San Diego to attend law school. While in law school, Heidi worked as a political consultant for The La Jolla Group and for a sports agency firm.

After receiving her law degree, Heidi became a civil litigator focusing on employment law cases in federal court. Heidi went on to do policy work for The Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People and represented students with disabilities in cases against schools, mental health and correctional facilities.

Heidi served as the Legislative Program Manager under the Ritter Administration for the Department of Natural Resources before returning to work on policy issues that impact children and young adults as the Director of Public Affairs for The Children’s Hospital.

Heidi P. Baskfield filled the vacancy left on the Board by the departure of former Representative Mark Larson. Her term runs until December 31, 2012.
