Study water science, water policy, and water management through the Interdisciplinary Water Studies Certificate at Fort Lewis College. Open to students from any major, this certificate combines environmental science, policy, and interdisciplinary coursework to help you understand and address water challenges in the Four Corners region and beyond.
Whether you're interested in environmental research, conservation, law, public service, natural resource management, or community engagement, the Water Studies Certificate provides specialized knowledge and skills that complement your degree and prepare you for water-related careers.
Explore key concepts in hydrology, watersheds, aquatic ecology, groundwater, weather, climate, and other areas of water science.
Examine water law, policy, justice, economics, and management strategies to better understand how communities address complex water challenges.
Connect perspectives from geosciences, environmental studies, biology, engineering, sociology, history, philosophy, and political science through a flexible certificate curriculum.

The Water Studies Certificate requires 16 credits and can be completed alongside any bachelor's degree. Open to students from all majors, the certificate combines core coursework in water science and water policy with electives that allow you to explore water issues from multiple perspectives.

Four Corners Water Center connection
The Interdisciplinary Water Studies Certificate is closely connected to the Four Corners Water Center, giving students opportunities to engage with water issues through a network of faculty, researchers, and community conversations focused on the future of water in the American West. Students may connect with the center through mentoring opportunities with the director and affiliate faculty and explore related programs and fellowships offered through the Water Center.
