American pianist, Dr. Lisa Campi Walters, is the Professor of Piano at Fort Lewis College where she performs myriad solo and chamber music recitals, accompanies, teaches private and class piano, theory and music history. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Piano at Eastern Washington University in Spokane, Washington. Dr. Campi Walters has performed and adjudicated throughout North America, and has given lecture recitals and performances for such venues as the Chautauqua Institute in New York, the Scotia Festival of Music in Nova Scotia, for CBC radio, for the National Public Radio on WBFO: for the “Opus, Classics Live” series at the University of Buffalo, and for the “Piano Bench” series on KPBX, Spokane Public Radio. Most recently she has presented her lecture-demonstration, “The Colors of the Piano” at the Colorado State Music Teachers Association Conference.
A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Dr. Campi Walters received her BM from Indiana University, her MM from the University of Maryland, and her DMA from the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Rebecca Penneys. Dr. Campi Walters was the pianist for the Taliesin Piano trio which participated in the National Endowment for the Arts/Chamber Music America rural residency in Blytheville, Arkansas, and which founded the concert series, “Composers, in their Own Words.” Dr. Campi Walters was the co-artistic director and pianist for the Clock Tower Chamber Music festival, and she founded, directed and adjudicated for the Four Corners Piano Competition at Fort Lewis College.
Dr. Campi Walters currently serves as the keyboardist for the San Juan Symphony Orchestra and regularly performs as the pianist for the Red Shoe Piano Trio of Fort Lewis College. She is co-director of the Piano Academy at Fort Lewis College, and she serves as active member and historian for the Four Corners Music Teachers Association. Her students have won competitions, teach at colleges throughout the United States and for music festivals. She has recently partnered with her husband, Mark Walters to form a piano and clarinet duo that presents standard classical, modern and jazz repertoire; they have most recently returned from China where they performed, premiered a composition, and taught at Shandong Normal University. Dr. Campi Walters is a vigorous advocate for the music of our time, composes and performs a wide range of solo and chamber works by leading contemporary composers, and has been associated with several modern music ensembles, including Ossia in Rochester, New York, and Zephyr in Spokane, Washington.
