Music recitals and jury information

Find forms and information to schedule recitals, juried performances, and musical accompaniment.

Junior/Senior degree recitals

Junior Recitals are required of Performance Majors only. These may be half recitals given in conjunction with another student. Senior Recitals are required of all music majors during their senior year, which fulfills the Senior Seminar requirement.

The sophomore proficiency cannot be completed during the semester you register for senior seminar.

Music length requirements

  • Performance majors junior recital - 30 minutes
  • Performance majors senior recital - 60 minutes
  • All other majors senior recital only - 30 minutes

Scheduling

You must have approval from your applied teacher. Print and complete the proposal form and submit to Shauna Blaylock two months prior to proposed date.

Scheduling policy:

  1. Students presenting senior and required junior recitals (performance majors and jazz study majors only) will have first priority when choosing performance dates.
  2. Students should schedule all required recitals as early as possible each term.
  3. Only after these recitals have been scheduled will dates be made available for non-required recitals.
  4. Junior recitals are typically half recitals, and must be shared with another student.
  5. The music department will not provide programs for optional recitals, and students are encouraged to schedule optional recitals off-campus.

Recital programs

Create your recital program and notes using the program template below and submit to Shauna Blaylock.

  • Submit your program order at least six weeks before your recital date.
  • Submit your program notes at least 4-weeks before your recital date.
  • Late submissions will result in a reduced grade and might not be printed for your recital.

This template is pre-formatted for printing. Please do not change the formatting on any page other than your cover page. MAC computers will skew the formatting of these forms; you must fill these out on a PC. There are several labs on campus which provide PCs for you to use.

Juries

Juried exams are held for all Applied Music students at the end of each semester. Appearance before a faculty jury constitutes the final exam in the student’s applied area. Students performing a degree recital are exempt from a jury for that term.

Print and complete the repertoire form. Bring the required amount of completed copies to your jury. Your applied teacher can let you know how many copies to bring.

Midday Music student recitals

All music majors are required to perform one Midday Music Student Recital per semester. Monthly recitals are held in Roshong Recital Hall on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Your musical selection cannot exceed 6 minutes.

Students performing a junior or senior recital do not need to perform for a student recital during the same term. A Student Honors Recital performance will fulfill your student recital requirement for the Spring term.

Submit the student recital form to be included in a Midday Music Student Recital. Deadline for submission is the Monday one week prior to your desired recital date. If you do not submit by the deadline, you will NOT be programmed.

Request accompaniment

Submit the accompaniment request form at least two weeks before your scheduled performance.
