Whatever change you want to make in the world begins with political science

With FLC’s Political Science program, you’ll study how government works and your role as a citizen. Hone the communication, collaboration, analytical, and data skills necessary to find novel solutions to timely issues. Apply that knowledge to internships and real-world experiences, and graduate prepared to tackle politics, law, civil rights, and other social matters in your community, nation, and beyond.

Active learning

In small classes with engaged faculty, you’ll learn political science by actively participating in citizenship and government processes. As with most programs at FLC, you’ll have the opportunity for an internship and a senior research project.

Local & regional action

Take part in voter education in Durango and the surrounding communities by collaborating with the League of Women Voters to create non-partisan interpretations of local ballot initiatives. Learn the issues and learn to communicate policy effectively with community members. 

Applying academics & research

You’ll work with faculty to understand what motivates voters through our youth voter engagement project and learn through simulations such as writing a constitution for a fictional state. As you advance in the program, you’ll do your own research on topics as global as US foreign policy, or as local as water use in our Four Corners region.
