Grounded: Building Confidence Through Self-Reliance

Day/Time: W 12:25-1:25

College can feel exciting, overwhelming, and like a lot to manage all at once. This class is designed to help students feel more grounded, confident, and capable as they navigate their first semester. Through simple practices drawn from yoga, seasonal living, reflection, and practical self-care, we will explore how sleep, stress, movement, food, time, and environment affect energy, focus, and wellbeing. Students can expect interactive discussion, reflective exercises, accessible movement and breath practices, and real-life tools they can actually use. They will leave the course with a stronger sense of self-trust and a personalized framework for supporting themselves in college and beyond.

Habits for Happiness (FLC 100) and Rhetoric and Research (COMP 150-14)

Day/Time: T/R 11:15-12:10

What really makes us happy—and how can we make it last? In these courses, we’ll dive into practical ways to boost joy and well-being, from gratitude and mindfulness to building strong relationships and finding purpose. Instead of just talking about happiness, we’ll practice it: weekly challenges, reflection activities, and real-life strategies you can use right away. Along the way, we’ll explore what research says about habits that help us thrive and why happiness looks different across cultures and communities.
