About David Utley

David Utley is a professional art director for film and television and a set designer for theatre, working nationally for over 20 years. He is a member of the Art Director’s Guild local 800 in Los Angeles and United Scenic Artist local 829 out of New York. He received his MFA from the University of Texas and a B.A. in theatre from Abilene Christian University. David is thrilled to join the talented students and faculty at Fort Lewis College.  

His film and television credits include The Nice Guys, Geostorm, The Proposal, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Glee, Rendition, End of Watch, The Express, Castlerock, First Lady, and Men of a Certain Age which won the Peabody Award for Outstanding Art Direction in 2010.

However, David’s first love is the theatre. He’s designed for summer stocks, Shakespeare festivals, Universities, and regional theatres across the country. From small intimate productions like Red and The Last 5 Years to large musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar, Beauty and the Beast, and Into the Woods, the challenges of live theatre remain alluring and invigorating.
