About Dr. Jill Choate

Jill Choate is an associate professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Fort Lewis College. She joined the college in 2015. In the Teacher Licensure program, Professor Choate teaches and advises on topics related to students with disabilities, issues in behavior management, differentiated instruction and the areas of inclusion for all students through a variety of instructional methods. Prior to joining the faculty at Fort Lewis College, Choate was a middle school special education teacher in Durango, Colorado, for fifteen years and in Ogallala, Nebraska, for six years, as well as a behavioral interventionist, a cooperating teacher for student teachers, and a member of numerous development teams at the Dana Center at the University of Texas, Austin. 
 
Choate holds a Colorado Professional Teaching License for Elementary and Middle School Special Education and a Colorado Administrative License. She has served as a school board member for the First United Methodist Church, a volunteer for the Manna Soup Kitchen, and a committee chair for Boy Scouts Troop 538, all in Durango. Choate is a member of several professional associations, including the Council for Exceptional Children, Kappa Delta Pi, the Durango Education Association, the Colorado Education Association, and the National Education Association.
