Department of Physics & Engineering

Experience One of the Top Engineering Schools in a Liberal Arts Setting

Why Study Physics & Engineering

Our goal is to provide quality engineering and physics programs within the context of a liberal arts education. We prepare our students for successful careers as engineers, scientists, and technologists as is evidenced by the career and graduate school placement of recent graduates. Graduates of our engineering programs have the skills, training, and flexibility to adapt to tomorrow's demands for modern, interdisciplinary careers in a rapidly changing technological society.

Why Study Physics & Engineering at Fort Lewis College

Three ways we are unique compared to similar programs at other colleges:

  1. Small class size
  2. Access to professors for individual help and excellent mentoring.
  3. Undergraduate research and engineering design opportunities in worthwhile and diverse areas.
Student working in lab of top engineering school
The Fort Lewis College offers two engineering degrees, Bachelors of Science in Engineering and Engineering Physics.  Both programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET,, the national organization that accredits engineering programs. This assures graduates from the program are prepared to meet the quality standards established by the profession. These are the only accredited engineering programs in western Colorado and the Four Corners region.
Engineers Without Borders FLC
The Engineers Without Borders – Village Aid Project at Fort Lewis College (EWB) is a program that gives students the opportunity to work on engineering related projects in the developing world. Students study, organize, design, and assist in the construction of projects that improve the quality of life in poor communities around the world.
Fort Lewis College Observatory
The Department runs an observatory for student observational astronomy/astrophysics research, has space grant programs to develop balloon/rocket payloads, NASA internships, senior seminar/design and other meaningful undergraduate research opportunities.
