Our season runs from September through March and follows the academic calendar for breaks with a few exceptions.
Our game schedule consists of games against regionally located Pacific DIII & DII ACHA teams and one or two extended trips each season. Practices are held twice each week on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 6:00 a.m. – 7:15 a.m.
The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is the national governing body of non-varsity college ice hockey in the United States. The organization provides structure, regulations, promotes the quality of play, sponsors National Awards and National Tournaments. The ACHA currently has three men's and two women's divisions and includes approximately 450 teams from across the United States. The ACHA Pacific DIII is made up of approximately 25 teams located throughout the mid-west and rocky mountain region. Our regular season games are against teams primarily in the four corner states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, & New Mexico.
To establish a sustainable and reputable hockey program that provides an opportunity for student athletes to continue to play in a structured and competitive environment while gaining valuable life experiences.
We believe what we do off the ice is just as important as what we do on the ice, so we schedule team events and activities on campus, in our community, and throughout the southwest to provide our players with a great experience.
These may include backcountry, alpine, desert, & river trips, player development camps in Santa Fe, Flagstaff, & Grand Junction. Scheduled team-building activities during away games, Skyhawks Cup, Junior Skyhawks, fundraising and community service projects.
Active players must enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours during each semester of competition to be eligible and maintain a GPA of 2.0.
An individual player fee is required to participate in scheduled events & activities.
Fort Lewis College and many of the colleges and universities we play have a history and tradition with their hockey programs and most strive to qualify for the ACHA DIII regional and national tournaments each season.
ACHA DIII rosters consist of players from throughout the US and usually have organized and competitive experience in the youth and high school levels. Many players are seeking a structured program that allows a flexible balance of academics and athletics.
The overall success of the team and organization is dependent on the commitment of each player to the scheduled on and off ice sessions. To develop our program and have success on the ice each player needs to commit to the level of participation that is described in the organizational guide.
We are currently looking for players to re-start this team, and are actively searching to hire a new Head Coach. For more information, questions, or to get involved, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
