Fort Lewis College Multifactor Authentication

Multifactor Authentication will be removing texted and phone call authentication methods on February 1st!

Microsoft has announced recently that they will be dropping these two methods to increase cybersecurity on their multifactor authentication platform.

If you are currently using texted codes (also known as SMS) or phone calls to receive codes as your primary method for software logins requiring multifactor authentication (MFA), you will begin receiving notices on September 1st from Microsoft to change your default method.

Staff, faculty and students should update their primary MFA method to the Authenticator app as soon as possible. Several options within the app allow for customizations; you can still request push notifications for a one-time code similar to a texted code or call code. There are also options for biometrics that share fingerprint or screen pattern codes with your cellphone.

Ensure you are downloading the verified Microsoft Authenticator app: Microsoft Authenticator App- Google Play Store

If you do not have a cell phone, reach out to the IT Help Desk by emailing AskIT@fortlewis.edu, to find out about other options to suit your needs.

More information about this transition will be forthcoming!
