When requesting a departmental lab please choose a support model for your lab.

Departmental Lab Support Level  
1 IT Lab Image ONLY
2 IT Lab Image + departmental tech defined
3 OS ONLY + departmental tech defined
4 Hands Off - supply hardware only

Departmental Lab Support Level 1

  • We manage your departmental lab as we do all other labs on campus.
  • The departmental computers contain the exact same software as all IT managed labs on campus.
  • No special departmental software is installed unless it is through the formal software installation request process.
  • No special accounts are permitted on the machines that give departmental technicians, student workers, faculty or staff elevated access.
  • No special hardware drivers are installed to accommodate
  • IT will maintain the patches and updates required to keep the departmental computers in compliance with our network access control system.

Departmental Lab Support Level 2

  • IT installs the defined lab image on the departmental lab machines.
  • IT collaborates with the department to define the departmental technician. The departmental technician can be a group.
  • The departmental technician is responsible to install any departmental software beyond the defined lab image.
  • The departmental technician is responsible to create any accounts on the departmental computers to accommodate the needs of the department.
  • IT will troubleshoot minor issues related to the installation of extra software.
  • IT will train the departmental technician on how the lab image works.
  • IT will maintain the patches and updates required to keep the departmental computers in compliance with our network access control system.

Departmental Lab Support Level 3

  • IT will install an operating system only.
  • IT collaborates with the department to define the departmental technician. The departmental technician can be a group.
  • The departmental technician is responsible for all software installations and maintenance.
  • IT will maintain the patches and updates required to keep the departmental computers in compliance with our network access control system.

Departmental Lab Support Level 4

  • IT will deliver the departmental computers to the departmental technician without configuring them.
  • The departmental technician is responsible for all software installations and maintenance.
  • The departmental technician will maintain the patches and updates required to keep the departmental computers in compliance with our network access control system.
